Cost comparison for Root Canal Treatment Abroad
Country Cost Country Cost
United States $1,500 Colombia $190
Canada $1,500 Costa Rica $400
Australia $2,000 Thailand $400
New Zealand $2,000 Cambodia $150

**The cost of Root Canal Retreatment varies as per locations. Contact our team for details.

As clear from the table, the typical cost of root canal in the USA or Australia can cost you $1500 or more.

On top of it, your insurance may not be covering this procedure at all and if you need multiple RCTs then the cost will just multiply.

Therefore, it is wise that you consider cheaper root canal treatment options abroad in countries like Colombia, Mexico, India, Thailand, etc to find a good bargain.

What is a Root Canal?

A root canal (RCT) is a procedure done to save an infected tooth that has penetrated deep down to the nerves. During an RCT, your dentist will remove all the damaged nerve tissue.

Why do You need a Tooth Root Canal Treatment?

Wondering how you would know if you need a root canal? Read these points below and see if you answer them with a “yes”

  • Experiencing cruciating pain while chewing or biting.
  • Extended sensitivity to hot or cold food even if the substance has been removed
  • Swelling of gums
  • Tooth discolouration
  • Recurrent or persistent pimple on your gums.

If you are suffering from all these symptoms, then it may be an indication for a root canal treatment.

Root Canal Procedure

For a complete root canal treatment, you will need one or more visits. Read along to know the step-by-step procedure:

  • First Step: First of all, the endodontist will take your tooth’s X-ray to check the shape and number of canals.
  • Second Step: Then you will receive local anesthesia to numb the surrounding area of the tooth.
  • Third Step: A rubber sheet is placed around the tooth to prevent saliva from making the area moist.
  • Fourth Step: The dentist will now drill a hole into the tooth. Using root canal files, he/she will then remove the pulp along with the infected and decayed nerve tissue through this hole.

  • Fifth Step: Multiple files are used to increase the diameter of the access holes. The debris is then flushed out with water or sodium hypochlorite.
  • Sixth Step: After cleaning is complete, your tooth will be sealed. However, if there is an infection, your dentist will treat that first before sealing.
  • Seventh Step: A sealer paste and a rubber compound, called gutta-percha, are placed in the root canal, and the tooth is filled.
  • Eighth Step: A tooth that needs a root canal also usually needs further restoration like a crown or a post. You can choose any option and discuss it with your dentist.

If the root canal cannot be finished on the same day, a temporary filling is placed in the exterior hole to keep out any contamination between appointments.

Why Choose Root Canal Treatment Abroad?

  • The first advantage of going for root canal treatment abroad is the low cost, of course. The prices can be a third of the US price or even less.
  • Established medical tourism destinations like India, Thailand, Mexico, Costa Rica, Vietnam, and El Salvador offers great service with a high success rate.
  • You will find no language barrier as our partner dentists speak fluent English. If you still find some problems while interacting, then a translator can help you out.
  • Lastly, you can also combine a pleasure trip with your dental trip to any of these countries, and still end up saving money!

Root Canal and Dental Filling

A root canal and dental filling do not really compete with each other. If the infection in your teeth has not yet touched the nerve, a simple filling will do. But if the decay has penetrated deep inside, a filling is placed only after the root canal procedure, that is after the decayed matter is cleaned out. Hence, here the root canal and dental filling complement each other.

Precautions after Root Canal Treatment:

  • Eat soft foods for a day or two after your first root canal appointment.
  • After the root canal, you can brush and floss normally.
  • Gently brush your teeth with soft bristle toothbrush.
  • Rinse your mouth after each meal.
  • Visit your dentist at scheduled intervals.

FAQ

  • How quickly can a root canal be done?

A typical root canal treatment can be completed in two appointments. However, the time between two appointments may vary between 1 week to 3 weeks. This time gives your tooth ample time to heal.

A root canal can also be completed in a day, however, it totally depends on your tooth’s condition. Only a thorough examination of the root and nerves can confirm a single visit RCT.

  • Can I travel immediately after a root canal treatment?

Traveling after a root canal is usually not a problem. However, in case you have your RCT done in a different country, then we suggest that you wait for at least 4-5 days before you move back to your native country.

By this time, your post-RCT discomfort should subside. If not, then it is better you consult with your dentist.

If you are worried about flying in-between your appointments, you can do that as well, although this should not mean extending the time-lapse between sittings.
