Incisional hernia is also called ventral hernia. Incisional hernias occur in people who have had a previous abdominal surgery. They are also more likely to occur in people who are obese or pregnant.

Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair: This is a recent method for repairing an incisional hernia in adults. In laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery, the surgeon inserts a thin, lighted scope through a small incision in the abdomen. Instruments to repair the incisional hernia are inserted through other abdominal incisions.
