Tests for Intended Parents to Qualify for Surrogacy in India

Question – Please list the tests that intended parents need to go through to qualify for surrogacy.

Answer – 1. Baseline Profile of intended mother (to be done on day 2/3 of her menstrual cycle):

  • Serum FSH
  • Serum LH
  • Serum TSH
  • Serum Prolactin

2. Fertility tests for intended mother:

  • Complete blood count
  • Fasting and PP sugar
  • Blood grouping and Rh typing
  • Bleeding time and clotting time
  • Routine urine
  • Test for HbsAg
  • Test for HCV
  • Test for VDRL
  • HIV (1+2) antibody
  • Test for Chlamydial antibodies (IgM + IgG)
  • Endometrium for TMA-TB and TB Culture
  • Test for Antiphospholipid antibodies (IgM + IgG)

3. Tests to be done by intended father:

  • Routine Semen Analysis
  • Antisperm Antibodies (Husband)
  • Semen Culture ABST (also known as SCABS – semen culture antibiotic sensitivity test)
  • Test for HbsAg
  • HIV (1+2) Antibody
  • Blood Grouping & Rh typing

These tests apply only in the case of self IVF and not if egg or sperm donor is being used. For instance, if egg donor is being used, the intended mother does not have to go through the above tests.

The test results should not be more than six months old when submitting to our fertility clinic.
