Eligibility for Surrogacy in India
Question – What are the medical and legal conditions which qualify a woman for surrogacy in India?
Answer – IVF surrogacy is recommended for women who:
a) do not have a uterus from birth (mullerian agenesis)
b) have had their uterus removed surgically (hysterectomy) because of cancer, or other medical conditions.
c) have a malformed (unicornuate uterus, T-shaped uterus, bicornuate uterus with rudimentary horn) or diseased uterus (T.B of the endometrium, severe Asherman’s Syndrome) or are at a high risk of a rupture in the uterus
d) have repeated miscarriages or have repeated failed IVF cycles because of unexplained factors.
e) suffer from diabetes, heart or kidney diseases like chronic nephritis whose long-term prospect for health is good, but pregnancy could be life-threatening.
f) have Rh incompatibility
All these conditions render the woman incapable of carrying a pregnancy to term.
