What Goes Wrong With Spinal Cord Injury?

The spinal cord is a cluster of nerves running through the center of the back carrying signals between the brain and the body.
​✔​ Any injury to the back can cause disruption of the flow of signals.

Sacral Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)

Complete Vs. Incomplete SCI
In an incomplete SCI, the spinal cord does not completely lose its function of conveying messages to and fro with the brain. People with incomplete spinal cord injuries may have some sensation left in areas below the injury. A complete spinal cord injury, on the other hand, is marked by complete loss of sensation and motor abilities below the site of injury.

Loss of sensation or movement can also be categorized as:

Tetraplegia/Quadriplegia: Paralysis of all four limbs along with pelvic organs

Paraplegia: Partial paralysis
