''My name is Alejandro Chavez Badiola and I'm a gynecologist with training in reproductive medicine at the largest IVF training center in the UK. I started writing scientific papers and presenting in important meetings in the United States when I was a resident in gynecology.
Then when I moved to the UK for my training in IVF I was interested to start writing more seriously. And then I developed this special interest in endometriosis and how it affects IVF. I published a very comprehensive and important report on how to improve success rates for IVF patients who have endometriosis.
Following that I started travelling and looking for different ways and different philosophies and trying to find a better way to do IVF. This way I ended up in New York and Tokyo and I learned about minimal stimulation and other new techniques that they have, such as a very reliable cryopreservation technique called vitrification. So, we started polishing that.
We have at least until the last meeting in Barcelona, we had the largest number of live births in the world. So a lot of publications about that. I'm invited to meetings all over the world every single month from India to Greece, I went to the UK to train people in the new techniques I'm practicing at the moment in Argentina and the United States.
Last year I was responsible for some 400-500 IVF cycles. We believe success rates in IVF should be measured as live births not only pregnancies, clinical pregnancies. What we aim for is for our patients to go back home with healthy babies.
We have advanced set-up, we have state-of-the-art laboratory with embryologists from the United States who are considered the best in the world. So we can offer for minimal stimulation around 32% pregnancy rate and around 45% success rate with standard IVF.
In Mexico, I think most laboratories are average and I think this is where it makes the difference with us. We've invested a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of money to have a laboratory which is among the best in the world.
We have the latest technology from assisted hatching with laser. We have the very best cryopreserving technique called Cryotop Vitrification. We have the best equipment, but again equipment is not all. The people that handle these equipment is probably the most important thing, so we rely on our experience.
As doctors we are very well trained, we have a lot of experience and our scientists - they come from the United States or they have been trained abroad.
We offer to our patients two options for IVF treatments. They can either stay here in Mexico for only one week or they can have the full treatment under surveillance here and this is around two weeks. We know our patients, of course, are very busy and they cannot make the full two weeks for traveling and being treated. So this is why we offer the shorter option.
For the two weeks option: we have to see them on the third day of the cycle and then they have five days off. Then we see them again on the eighth day. So if you want a holiday you can go to one of the beaches that are around here. A wonderful way to have holiday in Pacific beaches. So all this should be seen as a holiday and IVF treatment.
We have an egg bank from Mexican donors and this is one of the options that we can offer. But also we have got some patients coming from abroad. They are very different to Latin population and they might be looking for donors that are much more like themselves. I'm not talking only about Americans, but also about Asians, about Europeans, and again it's rather difficult to have such a large egg bank here in Mexico. So we rely on an egg bank in the United States, so that we can offer a lot of options.
Guadalajara is the second largest city in Mexico. It is located in the west part of the country and is probably among the cities with the best weather, very friendly people and very important, it's a very safe city at the moment. We are in a privileged location since we have the largest lake in Mexico only 40 minutes away.
A large community of Americans and Canadians living here after retirement. They live in an area around half an hour from the lake area. We have very good connections. International flights from major cities in Canada and the United States such as LA, Vegas, Houston. We also have very good connections within Mexico. So, it's very easy to travel around in Mexico to holiday destinations within half an hour to two hours at the most.''
