Dr. Jose HernandezDr. Hernandez is the Director of Laboratories and co-founder of Servicios Medicos Reproductivos de Tijuana (SEMERT) as well as Director of Laboratories of the Reproductive Health Center of Tucson, AZ. He has over fifteen years of clinical and research experience in all aspects of human embryology and over twenty years of experience in other animal species. Professional Profile Dr. Jose Hernandez completed a postdoctoral fellowship program at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. His work included developing an "Embryo Farming" program to provide several thousands of bovine embryos for basic research. He was one of the first animal scientists to publish studies on "Sequential Culture Media" for pre-implantation bovine embryos. He developed a number of protocols that resulted in a better and more efficient procedure to produce embryos in vitro. He used biochemical and molecular biology techniques to better understand the physiology of the bovine pre-implantation embryo. He also focused on molecular biology techniques such as RT-PCR, DNA sequencing, and microinjection of embryos. Dr. Hernandez obtained his Ph.D. degree at Washington State University in the Department of Animal Sciences. He performed extensive research on the cryopreservation of female gametes and embryos, in vitro fertilization, and embryo culture techniques. He attained his Master of Science degree at the University of Missouri. His research focused on reproductive hormones in the follicular fluid of cows with ovarian cysts, after treatment with gonadotropin releasing hormone. In addition to his educational achievements in the United States, Dr. Hernandez earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Veracruz. He has written four book chapters in Embryology/Andrology texts, published over 50 research articles in refereed journals, has presented over 100 abstracts in national or international meetings of professional societies and has achieved numerous awards and honors. He served for many years as a consultant to INCIID (a source of information and hope for infertility patients) in the areas of Male Infertility and the Spanish section.
